 Why should I care?

    Ultimately, the ordination of GLBT (gay,
 lesbian, bisexual, transgender) clergy is a basic
 justice issue.  The organized Christian church,
 with all its political and financial power, is one of
 the fiercest battlegrounds for GLBT equality.
 By denying these individuals the right to be ordained,
 the ELCA is essentially ignoring the needs of a
 large percentage of their congregations.
 Regardless of religious background, the actions
 of St. Paul-Reformation and Anita C. Hill have
 shaken up the national consciousness.  Some
 of the most powerful people in this country are
 Christian and their faith is the foundation
 of many of their decisions.  Changes within Christian
 denominations have the potential to drastically
 alter the national climate for GLBT individuals.
